Danielle Alkov
Name: Danielle Alkov
HMS graduation year: 2013
Residency: UCSF, Family and Community Medicine
What accomplishments are you most proud of since entering medical school?
Working on expanding exposure and health equity around issues of reproductive justice, prison health/incarcerality and queer health care.
What are you doing now?
I work for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Working for a large organization has allowed me to work in many different clinical settings. For 7 years, I had a primary care panel at Castro Mission Health Center, a panel at an evening clinic for queer youth, and a panel at a psychiatric clinic for patients whose mental health made it hard to access primary care in the community. I also worked at the San Francisco jails and delivered babies at San Francisco General Hospital. Recently, I became medical director at Castro Mission Health Center.
What are your future plans?
I am really happy with my current situation so do not see any major changes in my future.
How did you decide that FM was for you?
I wanted to find a community of doctors who care about social justice in healthcare.
What are the most important things that HMS needs to do to support students interested in FM?
Greater presence of family medicine faculty.
What advice do you have for current HMS students about FM?
Reach out to family docs and see if it's right for you!
