Teaching

Interested in joining the Program in Family Medicine teaching community? Family physicians currently teach a variety of courses at HMS and there are ongoing new opportunities for longitudinal teaching and single events. Some ongoing courses include the Foundational Continuity Clerkship where first-year students learn history and physical skills during real-time primary care office sessions, the Primary Care Clerkship where students in block rotations spend a half-day a week at a primary care practice over about seven months, and the Family Medicine elective. Additionally, there are a series of lunch and dinner talks throughout the year, largely student-run, and we can help you to connect with the student organizers if you have a topic that you would like to share with the community. Opportunities arise on a rolling basis.

Research

There are many people conducting primary care research within our community, and the Program in Family Medicine provides not only a way for these individuals to connect, but also help in connecting research projects into the HMS student database if you are interested in a student collaborator. To learn more about current faculty research interests, contact Kathe.

Become a Mentor

In the absence of a family medicine department, it can be challenging for students to find family physician mentors. In addition to an annual Mentorship Dinner, the Program in Family Medicine maintains a searchable database of faculty who are particularly interested in mentoring students. We also hope to promote interfaculty mentorship in the future. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this survey – you need only fill out the parts of the survey that interest you, although we are grateful for any information you are willing to share.
